There are already about 45 farmers markets in Minnesota's Twin Cities region. Is there room for another, in Bloomington? Too soon to tell, according to this report in the Star-Tribune. But clearly, if every neighborhood insists on having its own farmers market, the markets will come under increasing pressure to loosen any rules they have against reselling of out-of-state produce.
"Setting up a market is an art and a science, said Jack Gerten, manager of the St. Paul Farmers Market. Shoppers want variety and an ample supply of goods... Markets have to find a balance for vendors, too, who need to sell enough to want to come back. That can be a challenge if you want what's sold to be Minnesota-grown, as the St. Paul and Bloomington markets do."
